UPDATE: Keith is not supporting or not not supporting OCD's version of The Return of Dr. Octagon. This doesn't really confirm or deny the speculation and hearsay below. On amazon.com there is a preorder page for 'The Return of Dr. Octagon'. That seemed to be fine until I read the ridiculous claims in it's editorial review. So I posted a thread on the amazon page and left it at that.Somehow that thread magically disappeared so here I am writing this. First of all here is the editorial review/product description: I made a few observations about the above quote: 1. The official version is Fanatik J's unreleased version 'The Return of Doctor Octagon' (2001-2003) and not this version. 2. Kool Keith has never heard of these guys, let alone worked with them 3. Similar to point 1, the closest thing to a follow up is Mr. Nogatco - Nogatco Rd or if Fanatik J releases his version. 4. IMHO the majority of the released samples and remixes released so far sound like utter arse. 5. This is probably one of the most outrageous claims as it implies that on the original Dr. Octagon Automators production did not match Keiths style. 6. No he didn't, One Watt Sun etc. somehow acquired Fanatik J's acapellas and put some B-Grade dance beats behind it. Dr. Octagon (Kool Keith, Dan the Automator, DJ Q-Bert, etc) has nothing to do with this release. So there you have it. My above opinion is based on Kool Keith interviews, sources close to Keith and information on forums such as ultrakeith. The 'offical' website is complete rubbish and so is the albums cover. They both look like they were designed by an idiot let loose with frontpage and ms-paint. This album is rumoured to be a bootleg, so if that's true this would explain it, no one ever heard of any money going into a bootlegs cover or website. If you disagree or have something to add feel free to post a comment to this article or email me. |
