Big Day Out, Auckland, Friday, January 18, 2008, 45,000 people, I was there. The main reason for being there was to see Kool Keith (performing as Dr. Octagon) and Kutmasta Kurt; Rage Against the Machine and Dizzee Rascal also didn't hurt.

The first thing Snake and I noticed were the multitude of people wearing Rage Against The Machine t-shirts which they had bought on the day; this of course violates 3rd rule of concert t-shirt etiquette(#18 in the list).

The day got off to a rough start when New Zealand's favorite and most respected broadcaster John Campbell said "Ohhh no fuck that" then possibly followed by the word "bitches".

While waiting for Kool Keith I went to a few sets which I wasn't really interested in, Antagonist, Die! Die! Die!, Cut off your hands and Anti-Flag. They were decent enough, with Anti-Flag getting the crowd going crazy and doing a lot of slamming Great Caesars W Bush.

Finally I headed to the boiler room to see Keith. Kurt started off with some mixes and then Keith came on with 'Girl Let Me Touch You'. From memory he also played 'Trees', 'Sex Style', 'Black Elvis', 'Freaks', 'Varoom', 'Poppa Large'. He also did a medley spanning most of his other albums.

Tom Morello (RATM) did a version of 'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap' which he dedicated to Mr G Bush. Then the biggest surprise of the day came when Serj Tankian (SOAD) came on and did a track with him (Serj is currently living in New Zealand).

When Rage Against The Machine finally played the stadium was completely packed out and everyone was going completely mental. They played for an hour then left. They hadn't played 'Killing in the Name', so they came back on and did so. Wicked!

So all and all a freakin' sweet day!
