The last few days I have been working on a new version of the Mambo Review Component 'Simple Review'. The current development version can be viewed at this test site. Please note that the development version contains features such as user comments which isn't available in the 0.55 release. The new version will hopefully be out early December and I welcome any suggestions before the deadline.
Proposed new features:
Joomla! compatibility
Score/Rating can only be an int, no longer varchar
More than 3 text fields for additional review information
Users can post comments and scores for published reviews
Config settings in the admin backend
On the review listing page show thumbnails and blurbs for the top N reviews
While I wasn't working on my Mambo review component I was trying to figure out why all of a sudden my computers mp3's were full of static/noise at high volumes and warped at low volumes. First I thought my new sound system must of crapped out. After testing the stereo I thought my ST20G5's (computer) sound card must of died, after playing with new drivers and a USB sound card I ruled this out. Then for some reason I tried playing my MP3s in Media Player instead of iTunes. OMG all the distortion was gone! I was using an old version (4.X) so I upgraded to version 6. Still no luck. Then I noticed it had put the annoying QuickTime icon in the system tray. While looking for the option to get rid of it I found out that the output size of iTunes/QuickTime was set to 8 bit!!! I don't know how this happened, but as soon as I set it to 24 bit all my problems disappeared! This option doesn't seem to be in iTunes and doesn't seem to be very obvious, especially if you don't have QuickTime in your system tray! Damn you Apple!
